| Shalom Region

The Shalom Region (in Hebrew: Hevel Shalom or Pitchat Shalom) is a string of communities in the northern Negev established towards the end of the 1970s, primarily for those who were evacuated from Israeli communities in the Sinai Peninsula. The region's name derives from the peace treaty signed between Israel and Egypt. All the communities are under the jurisdiction of the Eshkol Regional Council.

The Shalom communities were built on flat sandy dunes and the area was nicknamed "Patach Shalom" (Peace Opening). The region is bordered by the Avshalom intersection to the north, Holot Haluza (Haluza Sand Dune) to the south, the border fence between Israel and Egypt to the west and the Eshkol Regional Council to the east.

The localities comprising the Shalom Region include Sufa, Yated, Yevul, Dekel, Holit, Sde Avraham, Peri Gan, Talmei Yosef, Avshalom, Naveh, Bnei Netzarim and Shlomit. All of these localities are moshavim, with the exception of Sufa and Holit, which are kibbutzim, and Avshalom and Shlomit, which are community settlements.

Events of October 7

Terrorists attacked several localities in the Shalom region: Yated, Holit, Sufa and Peri Gan. Emergency response teams and tank crews from the Nitzana region took part in the fierce battles in Pitchat Shalom.

Our nation's spirit of unity was evident in the Shalom region, where the emergency response teams displayed bravery and courage, fighting and repelling the murderous terrorists. Many beloved and cherished individuals, the salt of the earth, lost their lives in these battles.
